DiscPro 2225

The DiscPro 2225 is a 1/4" tape drive replacement. It emulates the storage and functions of a 1/4" digital tape drive unit.  This unit provides a 20:1 reduction in media costs and 8:1 reduction in media storage space.

The DiscPro 2225 connects to a proprietary interface that required considerable effort to reverse engineer.  Once the interface timing and data formats were determined, a Z80 based controller was used to emulate the tape drive responses and provide the hardware / software interface to the floppy disc drive.

The firmware for the controller was developed in assembly language.  A PC Convert utility was developed in 'C' that would allow a PC to read, write, format and archive data from DiscPro discs.

50 of these units were purchased by the Australian Navy to retrofit test systems with these tape drive replacement units.
